Thanks to the innocent attraction to Hawaii of my then 8 year old son, (during a vacation here, he said "Mom, can we live here?"), my life's course led me to the island of Oahu, which is now my home. Little did I know that my son's love for the water, and both our creative penchants for photography, would play such an important role in my career.
I had bought my son a camera, and we went from island to island, shooting rainbows. He's now a film editor at Sony-Columbia Pictures...and also for me, photography having been a professional vocation for me while in the Mainland, also became an important role in my new career, real estate, in which I became licensed in 1976. Los Angeles had always been my home, but it seemed a perfect time to leave, back in 1971.
Traveling around all of the Hawaiian islands for 2 years, investigating and taking pictures of various lifestyles and especially people's decor, gave me a perspective needed to "stage" sellers' listings. Another career experience, my job in the Advertising & Publicity Dept. at MGM Studios, provided journalistic experience for writing ads. Although my sales experience in LA as a wholesale manufacturers' representative of gift and boutique items was quite successful, I decided to expand my sales arena to a larger field, larger $$ ticket item, and what better than real estate!
Initially my license and real estate training was with Locations, Inc. (before it was Prudential). I took a break , to get licensed in California, and practiced real estate there for the next 4 years.
When I returned to Hawaii, I joined ERA Stott, more intense training, and when they moved from the office I was in, I then joined Better Homes and Gardens (Peter Savio's franchise) and have enjoyed my association with now called, Hawaiian Island Homes, Ltd., for the last 19 years. I especially enjoy the ease in which the agents are encouraged, and without the extreme pressure to make quotas, so as to not put pressure on clients to "make sales," but rather establishing trust, always providing them with exposure to knowledge and informative data. Buyers are taught how to be creative in choosing financing opportunities enabling them greater purchasing power. I love to work with first time homebuyers, and watching their satisfaction in a purchase that ends in a good result...better than what they had thought possible!
Just a few personal notes about myself: In my leisure time I enjoy photography, movies, and TV. Hiking for many years past, , throughout the various local hills and valleys, gave me an appreciation for the types of geographical layouts and logistics in those areas. I've always been involved with horses, altho' the riding days seem to have become a thing of the past.
